The beginning of this century will be remembered by society for the famous hijackings of some ships, such as the Bakio Beach in 2008 and, subsequently, the Alakran in 2009, both from the Spanish pavilion, and on the other hand the Maersk Alabama (2009), American. Cases such as the following were also recorded: MV Faina (2008), MV Sirius Star (2008), MV Albedo (2010) and MV Iceberg 1 (2010–2012), all of them occurring off the Somali coast.
However, perhaps we should ask ourselves: is the public truly aware of the most recent attacks suffered by ships sailing in the Gulf of Guinea, such as the attacks on the MT Maximus (2016), MT Hailufeng 11 (2020), NaviG8 Grace (2020), MV Mozart (2021) or MV Davide B (2021), among others. And, in turn, does it interpret its serious consequences not only for shipping companies, but also for the safety of their crews?
This, then, is the reason for writing this article.
