The concept of terrorism, although defined in general terms, raises criminological questions about its true scope. This is due to the existence of approaches that consider certain criminal realities, under the banner of political or religious causes, as mere common organized crimes. Throughout the recent past and currently, numerous attacks attributed to various terrorist groups have been recorded throughout the world. Some of these acts are assumed by the groups themselves, while others are attributed to them. Asymmetric radicalism constitutes the main driving force of these organizations, complemented by a vertical organizational chart that facilitates their perpetuation over time. Their activity is framed within a complex network of interests, where the economic factor is a key element, although often camouflaged under other justifications. Within these subversive organizations, we can distinguish those that limit their violent acts to the national level and others that expand their actions beyond their borders, always based on opportunistic and spurious interests.
