Jihadist terrorism has emerged in recent years, especially since Daesh declared its caliphate in 2014, as one of the greatest security challenges globally. This event marked a significant increase in jihadist propaganda, aimed more directly at young people, particularly young Muslims around the world. Spain has not been immune to this phenomenon, with an increase in the attraction exerted by Daesh propaganda on young second- and third-generation Muslims living in the country. This has resulted in an increase in both the number of jihadist attacks and in police operations aimed at combating this type of crime. Daesh's influence on the radicalisation of young Muslims in Spain has led to a change in the criminological profile of jihadist terrorists, mainly evident in the lower age of those involved and their status, in many cases, as second- or third-generation Muslims.
